Well, after much time and effort, I have finally finished my book. The title of the book is the same as the title of this post (ACNH, for short), with the addition of Volume 1: Small Box of Words, as I hope this book becomes a series.
I must say the the novel ended up totally different than how it started. I started out wanting to write about escape; particularly, the escape from enslavement. A lot of the reading I was doing through this period of writing was focused on that aspect of Black History but I could never get a good grip on the writing. Earlier this year, I had a breakthrough as a result of changing the focus and the narrative. My previous books of poetry all had me and my life at the center. I needed to remove myself from the equation. Once I did that, the flood gates opened and suddenly all the bits and pieces had a home. They just needed a connecting thread and that thread was The Afterlife Consortium of Negro Historians. The website for the ACNH is currently being designed so, for information, click the link above which will take you to the group’s FB page and its latest communication.
